What is the diagnosis and what kind of treatment will be carried out? The stages involved in the consultation are described below

Consultation d'annonce

In the first part of the consultation, the doctor provides information about the disease and treatments on offer. He provides you with a customised treatment plan which explains the main steps involved and provisional dates for the treatment. It is a long consultation so that you can obtain all the information you want to know about the disease and treatment and so you can also ask the doctor any questions they may have.

An appointment with a nurse or technician follows the medical consultation. The aim of this appointment is to:

  • Help you work out what is involved in the treatment process: presentation of the department and medical teams, information about administrative procedures etc.
  • Fill out medical information, make sure medical information is clear and answer any additional questions you may have.

During the medical consultation, a medical dossier is created. It includes information about your disease and treatment:

  • Practical information: details of the people responsible for your care;
  • Results of examinations and medical reports;
  • Customised treatment plan.

This dossier creates a link between the patient, the doctor in charge of treatment and other professionals.

It is important to prepare for the consultation by:

  • Having a list of questions you want to ask ready;
  • Organising your administrative and medical documents (e.g.: previous scans etc.)

It could be beneficial to bring a relative or friend with you to the consultation.
