Editorial committee

Bernard HOERNI with J.BRUGERE, J.CHAUVERGNE, J-P.LE BOURGEOIS, J.MARTIN, J.ROBERT.

Written in collaboration with hundreds of French specialists, for the first time ever, this book provides in depth information about cancer, its history, causes, treatments and the negative impacts it has on victims' working and social lives. Complex data is made clearer thereby resolving any well known misconceptions about cancer.

Whether healthy or ill, everyone will find objective, practical and detailed information to help them take responsibility for themselves. Cancer analysis indicates key factors that contribute to the appearance of cancer. The leading cause of cancer is smoking.

Information provided helps patients communicate with their friends, relatives, doctors and other medical staff to create trusting relationships. These partnerships play a significant role in treatment by improving results, increasing chances of becoming well again and by ensuring patients maintain a good quality of life. Far from being lepers and outcasts of society, people affected by cancer are very unfortunate individuals who deserve to be surrounded by love and support to help them overcome such a difficult ordeal.

The dictionary also provides answers to questions related to the historical, cultural, social and scientific implications of cancer.
